The Deep Cleaning Checklist for Florida Homes
By Blue Bin Crew · May 2026 · Wesley Chapel, FL
Florida homes have unique cleaning challenges that most generic checklists ignore — high humidity, year-round pollen, mold-prone bathrooms, and sand tracked in from the backyard year-round. This checklist is built for homes in the Wesley Chapel area specifically.
Whether you're hiring a professional cleaning service or doing it yourself, here's exactly what a real deep clean covers — room by room.
What Makes a Deep Clean Different from a Regular Clean?
A standard clean maintains your home. A deep clean resets it. The difference is the stuff that gets ignored in weekly maintenance: inside appliances, baseboards, grout lines, cabinet fronts, ceiling fans, and behind furniture that never gets moved.
In Florida specifically, deep cleans matter more because humidity accelerates buildup in bathrooms, behind appliances, and in grout. A home that hasn't had a deep clean in 6+ months will almost always have mold or mildew starting in at least one bathroom.
Room-by-Room Deep Clean Checklist
Kitchen
- Inside oven — degreasing racks, walls, and door glass
- Inside refrigerator — shelves, drawers, door gaskets
- Inside microwave — walls, turntable, exterior
- Cabinet fronts — grease buildup on handles and door faces
- Inside cabinets and drawers (move-out cleans only)
- Backsplash — grout lines and tile faces
- Stovetop grates and drip pans
- Under appliances — fridge, stove, dishwasher front
- Sink — scrub basin, faucet base, and drain
- Light switches and outlet covers
- Countertops — including corners and under small appliances
- Floor — sweep, mop, and corners
Bathrooms
- Grout scrubbing — shower walls, floor, and tub surround
- Toilet — bowl, under rim, tank exterior, base, and floor around
- Shower door tracks and seals
- Exhaust fan cover — dust buildup is a fire hazard
- Mirror and medicine cabinet (exterior)
- Sink — basin, faucet, and drain
- Cabinet fronts and handles
- Baseboards
- Light switches and outlet covers
- Floor — scrub tile and grout lines
Florida-specific note: Bathroom exhaust fans in humid climates collect dust and lint fast. A clogged exhaust fan contributes to mold growth. We clean these on every deep clean — most companies skip them.
Bedrooms
- Ceiling fan blades — both sides
- Baseboards — wipe all the way around
- Window sills and tracks
- Light switches and outlet covers
- Behind and under bed (moved)
- Behind nightstands and dressers
- Closet floors and shelves (exterior on deep clean; interior on move-out)
- Mirrors
- Doors and door frames
- Floors — vacuum and mop
Living Areas
- Ceiling fans
- Baseboards — all walls
- Window sills and blinds
- Behind and under sofas and chairs
- Entertainment center — back, sides, and shelves
- Light switches and outlet covers
- Doors and door frames
- Floors — vacuum edges and under furniture
Whole Home
- All baseboards — wiped, not just dusted
- All ceiling fans
- All light switches and outlet covers
- All window sills
- All doors and door frames
- All mirrors and glass surfaces
- Trash emptied — all rooms
What a Deep Clean Does NOT Include
Even the most thorough deep clean has limits. A standard deep clean typically does not include:
- Inside cabinets and drawers (that's move-out territory)
- Inside closets
- Exterior windows
- Garage cleaning
- Laundry
- Carpet shampooing or steam cleaning
If you need any of these, ask your cleaning company — many offer add-ons, including us.
How Often Do Florida Homes Need a Deep Clean?
For most Wesley Chapel homeowners on a regular cleaning schedule, a deep clean once or twice a year is enough to keep things in good shape. If you have pets, kids, or you entertain frequently, bump it to quarterly.
If you've never had a professional deep clean and your home has been on basic maintenance, do one now. It'll reset everything and make every subsequent clean faster and more effective.
